History

Take a four-year family circumnavigation and add a few Bucket and Superyacht Races and then you will have a sense of the origin of P2.  Between 2001 and 2006 an adventurous couple with their two young sons and an equally adventurous crew, sailed Perseus, a 50-mt, 500-ton Perini Navi ketch around the world.  They sailed and dived and fished in some of the most beautiful and remote locations on the planet and along the way, whenever possible, refined their passion for big boat Bucket Racing.  It all started with the Millenium Cup in New Zealand in 2003 and then followed with the Phuket Invitational that same year, the Perini Cup in 2004, the St. Barth’s and Newport Buckets and the Shipyard Cup in 2005.  For each race the family invited a small group of talented sailors to join the crew in the roles of trimmers, helmsmen, tacticians and bowmen.  Together the permanent crew and the race crew learned how to sail their heavy, captive winch-filled yacht confidently (and often quickly) around the race courses.  But the better they became with their starts, hoists, tacks and gybes, the better the boss wanted them to become.

And so in 2005, after watching several of the newer performance cruising yachts make their way nimbly around the St. Barth’s course, the boss decided he wanted a yacht that could accommodate his passion for cruising and his developing taste for racing.

The boss considered several naval architects and an array of potential builders, but eventually the shipyard that built the boat that took the family around the world offered to combine the sleek naval architecture of Philippe Briand with their own vast construction resources.  And in that moment, after several hand drawn sketches and a handshake, the Briand/Perini Navi fast cruiser evolved from an idea into a project.
